The EU has provided Ukraine with over 19,000 laptops for schools and hospitals

Ukraine has received over 19,000 laptops, tablets and other devices as part of the Laptops for Ukraine initiative, launched jointly by the European Commission and Digital Europe. The equipment is already helping schools, hospitals and communities affected by the war.

The programme was launched in December 2022 to provide Ukrainians with modern equipment for education, treatment and work. Thanks to the support of European citizens and companies, the equipment was collected in nine EU countries through seventeen special hubs.

Valeria Ionan, advisor to the Minister of Digital Transformation, noted that the project has become an example of true unity between Ukraine and Europe. According to her, today more than 400,000 Ukrainian children are studying remotely, so computers and internet access are not a matter of convenience, but of necessity.

Cecilia Bonnefeld Dahl, Director General of DIGITALEUROPE, emphasised that the initiative has expanded the European emergency response mechanism by adding a digital assistance component. This is a recognition that technology has become an important element of security and recovery during wartime.

The last batch of equipment arrived in Ukraine at the end of September. The computers have already been distributed among schools, hospitals and communities in the affected regions. The project has helped to restore the educational process, digital services and communication in areas where the war has destroyed infrastructure.
