Ukrainians abroad wrote a radio dictation on national unity

Ukrainians from different countries around the world, united in the Strichka coordination platform, joined in writing the Radio Dictation of National Unity. This annual event, which symbolises love for the native language and the unity of Ukrainians, brought together not only participants in Ukraine, but also numerous representatives of the diaspora. For many of them, participating in the dictation was a way to feel connected to their homeland, even while being far away from it.

In Finland, participants from the Kalina Charitable Foundation in Vaasa, as well as Ukrainians from Vyoro and Orava, took part in the dictation. The event at the local Ukrainian Centre took place in a warm and uplifting atmosphere.

In Italy, members of the People for Ukraine association in Rimini described the dictation as emotional and nostalgic. The organisation’s president, Dmytro Shchukin, noted that for many Ukrainians, it was a reminder of their school years and the unity that language brings.

In the United Kingdom, members of the Devon Ukrainian Association in Exeter also experienced strong emotions. Kateryna Savchenko said that the text of the dictation deeply resonated with those who now live far from home. Her words were echoed by the organisation’s co-executive director, Anastasia Kuznetsova, who admitted that she had to fight back tears while writing.

Kateryna Matienko, an active member of the Strichka community in Spain, thanked the project team for inspiring her to join the campaign. She noted that such events help to promote the Ukrainian language abroad and maintain a moral connection with Ukraine.

In Slovenia, Alla Savchenko, chair of the supervisory board of the Društvo Ukrajincev v Sloveniji Razom Association of Ukrainians, called the dictation “a moment of deep unity, pride and love for the native language,” which united Ukrainians in different parts of the world.

The participation of the Strichka community in the Radio Dictation was further confirmation that even at a distance, Ukrainians remain united in their culture, language and identity.
