This year’s Radio Dictation of National Unity will be broadcast in Ukrainian sign language for the first time. This was announced by the team of the public organisation ‘Vidchuy’ which is in charge of the project.
The peculiarity of this year’s dictation is that it will be ‘read’ using a dactyl system, in which each gesture of one hand corresponds to a separate letter of the Ukrainian language. This format will allow people with hearing impairments to participate in the event on an equal footing with all other participants.
The radio dictation will traditionally take place on 27 October at 11:00. You can participate both offline and online. Those who wish to do so can come to the Kyiv Professional College of Applied Sciences at 29 John McCain Street or join the live broadcast. To participate, you must register in advance — after that, participants will receive all the details regarding participation and access to the broadcast or a seat in the hall.
The initiative to make the Radio Dictation inclusive is an important step towards equal opportunities and expanding access to cultural and educational events for people with disabilities.
