Areas of activity:
FAO’s activities are aimed at reducing the severity of poverty and hunger in the world by promoting agricultural development, improving nutrition and addressing food security – the availability to all at all times of the food needed for an active and healthy life. FAO acts as a neutral forum and a source of knowledge and information. It helps developing countries and countries in transition to modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries. In 2023, it was designated as the organizer of the International Year of Millet (UN Resolution 75/263).

History of creation:
Established at a conference in Quebec City on October 16, 1945, FAO acts as the lead agency for rural development and agricultural production in the United Nations system. FAO is at the heart of the United Nations Development System (UNDP), leading efforts to overcome the world’s most pressing food and agriculture-related challenges.
