Four Ukrainian writers have been nominated for the 2026 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, one of the most prestigious international awards in the field of children’s and young adult literature. This was announced by writer Halyna Vdovychenko, who received a letter from the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) organising committee confirming the nomination.
This year, Ukraine is represented by Andriy Kokotyukha, Halyna Vdovychenko, Ivan Andrusyak and Sashko Dermanksy. A total of 263 candidates from 74 countries and regions around the world have been nominated for the award, 78 of whom are nominated for the first time.
The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was established by the Swedish government in 2002 to honour the legacy of the author of the famous series of books about Pippi Longstocking. It is designed to support and recognise those who create literature that develops children’s love of reading and imagination. Every year, the list of nominees includes not only writers and illustrators, but also storytellers, researchers of children’s literature and initiators of projects that promote reading among children.
The winner of the 2026 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award will be announced on 14 April 2026 in Stockholm.
