The Ministry of Education and Science announced the selection of schools for specialised upper secondary education

The Ministry of Education and Science announced the second stage of a pilot project to introduce educational programmes for grades 10–12, developed on the basis of the State Standard for Specialised Secondary Education. The aim of the project is to test the updated content and structure of the three-year specialised school in order to create a modern, flexible education system that will support students’ interests and help them choose their career path.

Educational institutions, their founders, and local education authorities can participate in the selection process. Applications will be accepted from 1 to 21 October 2025, the competition commission is scheduled to work from 21 October to 10 November, and the list of selected institutions is expected to be announced by 30 November 2025. Details on the package of documents and conditions of participation are available on the official website of the ministry.

During the selection process, priority may be given to institutions that participated in the piloting of the State Standard for Basic Secondary Education, as well as those with enhanced material and technical resources or unique educational characteristics. These characteristics are important for the organisation of specialised education. The second stage provides for representation from different types of territories and schools: at least one institution from each region and the city of Kyiv. The presence of schools teaching in the languages of indigenous peoples and national minorities, institutions in mountainous areas, distance learning lyceums, boarding schools, and rural schools in a certain proportion.

The Ministry notes that the selection is competitive and should ensure the representativeness of the experiment for further scaling of specialised secondary schools at the national level. According to some reports, about 120 lyceums are planned to be involved in the pilot programme, which should allow for regional characteristics and teaching formats to be taken into account when evaluating the results of the experiment.
