A sensory room for children with visual impairments has been opened in Kyiv

On International White Cane Day, Kyiv City Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 1 opened a new sensory room for children with visual impairments. It is a space where children can explore the world through light, sound, touch and movement, developing coordination, sensory skills and self-confidence.

The room hosts individual and group sessions with specialists who help children navigate space, train fine motor skills and develop social skills. The project was implemented with the support of the Kyiv City State Administration’s Department of Health.

In the capital, children with visual impairments receive a full range of assistance — from diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitation. Specialists work in eight consultation and diagnostic centres, where they conduct comprehensive examinations, select glasses, apply sensory integration techniques and physiotherapy procedures.

Inpatient care for such patients is provided at Kyiv City Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 2 and City Clinical Hospital No. 6. Here, they perform surgical interventions, conduct rehabilitation sessions, and help children adapt to everyday life.
