Veterans climbed to Everest base camp and raised 1 million hryvnia for UNBROKEN

The Limitless team donated 1,030,000 hryvnias to the UNBROKEN rehabilitation centre in Lviv, which helps military personnel and civilians recover from injuries. The funds were raised during the initiative’s first expedition — a climb by GUR veterans with amputations to Everest base camp.

The expedition was led by Ivan Taran, a fighter from the ARTAN unit who lost his foot during the battles for Bakhmut, and Oleksandr Dashko, a veteran of the KRAKEN unit and vice-world champion in para-jiu-jitsu, who was wounded in the Kharkiv region. They were accompanied by mountaineers Tetiana Yalovchak and Taras Pozniy, as well as journalist Roman Bebekh, who documented the trip for his YouTube channel Bombardir.

The team climbed to an altitude of 5,280 metres, proving that physical limitations cannot stand in the way of a goal. The participants noted that the main goal of the project was to inspire other veterans to recover and show that after amputations, it is possible to live a full life, full of challenges and victories.

The expedition was part of a broader initiative called Limitless, aimed at supporting Ukrainian defenders who have survived injuries. The funds raised will help UNBROKEN develop physical, psychological and social rehabilitation programmes for veterans.
