The capital is preparing to install 500 mobile shelters. This was announced by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The project will be implemented by district state administrations, which will determine the locations and need for such shelters.
According to Klitschko, the requirements for mobile shelters are now clearly regulated at the state level. This allows for the organisation of safe conditions for people in the event of an air raid or emergency.
The issue of installing mobile shelters was considered at the previous session of the Kyiv City Council, following a decision by the City Defence Council. Klitschko stressed that expanding the shelter system remains one of the main priorities for Kyiv. The city continues to implement a programme of major repairs, reconstruction, and an increase in the number of shelters, in particular by adapting underground car parks.
In recent years, Kyiv has invested more than UAH 7 billion in the development of the civil protection system. About 2,000 shelters have been repaired, and this year another UAH 4 billion has been allocated for these needs.
Despite this, there are still areas in the city where there is no metro or permanent shelters. This is most relevant to remote residential areas, mainly on the left bank. It is there that mobile shelters are planned to be placed, which will provide residents with accessible protection in case of danger.
