President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law guaranteeing Ukrainian military personnel released from captivity monthly financial assistance in the amount of 50,000 hryvnia during long-term treatment.
Document No. 13627 was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on 9 October, with 244 votes in favour. The law applies to military personnel who, after returning from captivity, require inpatient treatment for more than 30 days.
Payments will be made during the first three months of rehabilitation. Previously, only military personnel who suffered injuries, concussions or disabilities during combat operations were eligible for such financial support.
In addition, the document simplifies the procedure for obtaining certificates of injuries or illnesses sustained while in captivity in order to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy and ensure prompt assistance.
The law will come into force one month after its official publication. Its adoption is another step towards strengthening social protection for military personnel who have survived captivity and require long-term rehabilitation.
