In Kryvyi Rih, construction is underway on a modern shelter designed to serve students from two educational institutions — the State University of Economics and Technology (DUET) and the Kryvyi Rih Medical Vocational College. The facility is being built to ensure that students can continue their studies safely, even during air raid alerts.
“During an air raid, these students will no longer have to run across the courtyard — the shelter is right next door,” – reports Humanitarian Media Hub, citing Pershyi Kryvorizkyi.
The project has moved beyond the design phase and is now in active construction. The shelter will accommodate over 600 people at once, including university staff, dormitory residents, and local citizens if needed. It’s not just a protective space — it’s being equipped to host offline classes, national multi-subject tests, and various educational, cultural, and training events.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to create safe learning environments in wartime conditions. It is being implemented in partnership with the German humanitarian organization ASB and the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council.
