Three new traditions have been added to the intangible heritage of Donetsk region

On 7 October 2025, a meeting of the regional commission on the formation of a list of elements of intangible cultural heritage of Donetsk Oblast was held. As a result, three new elements reflecting the richness of the region’s traditions were added to the list.

The list includes: the preparation of spindle-shaped sweets called “Uruchuk-tatlysi” — a traditional dish of the Greek community of Mirnenska; the wedding ritual element “Dyvo-drevo” from the village of Kostiantynivka in the Mariinsky community; and the tradition of preparing green borscht with tomatoes on Ascension Day in the village of Bohoyavlenka in the Vuhledar community.

Each of these elements preserves the unique features of local culture, which are passed down from generation to generation. They demonstrate the living power of traditions created by the people themselves and confirm that intangible heritage remains an important part of the region’s cultural identity.

Such initiatives contribute to the preservation of the cultural code of Donetsk Oblast and maintain the connection between the past and the present, even in the difficult conditions of war. The region continues to be a space where new meanings, inspiration and continuity are formed.
