The Public Health Center of Ukraine has joined the EU joint project JA Stockpile, aimed at strengthening strategic reserves of medical countermeasures for emergency response. The initiative emerged as a response to the challenges revealed by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to new threats linked to Russia’s war against Ukraine, climate change, and nuclear risks.
JA Stockpile seeks to enhance European countries’ preparedness for crises by creating sustainable reserves of medical countermeasures, ensuring faster distribution and deployment, and reinforcing cooperation between states. The project involves 25 EU member states and four partner countries, bringing together a total of 54 organizations.
The program is coordinated by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) in partnership with HERA, ECDC, EMA, the European Commission, and the WHO. The initiative is directly connected to the EU Health Strategy and the One Health approach, underlining its role in shaping a long-term protection system.
For Ukraine, participation in JA Stockpile provides opportunities for deeper integration into the European crisis management mechanism, strengthens national capacity to respond to threats, and enhances cooperation with international partners.
