Ukrainian women are actively involved in defending the country, rebuilding the economy, and humanitarian initiatives. They support society at all levels, from volunteer programmes to military service.
According to the UN, as of September 2024, there are 70,000 women in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Of these, 48,000 are military personnel, and another 5,500 are performing tasks directly in the combat zone.
Ukraine honours those who gave their lives for independence, freedom and peace, recognising the contribution of both women and men to the common struggle.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the number of women in the military has almost doubled since 2014. Women serve in combat, medical, engineering, and command units. Since 2018, most military specialties have been open to them, including artillery, tank forces, and reconnaissance. Ukraine is among the countries with the highest percentage of women in the army among NATO member states and partners.
