A new prosthetics centre has opened in Lviv at the Danylo Halytsky Medical University. Twenty modern 3D printers have been installed here to manufacture prosthetic sockets. This is the largest production facility in Ukraine in terms of the amount of equipment. According to Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, the workshop has the capacity to produce up to 600 prostheses per month.
The centre was made possible thanks to funding from the French government, which allocated €2.47 million. Sixteen Ukrainian specialists were trained by French experts to work on the equipment. The team includes doctors, prosthetists, physical therapists, rehabilitation specialists, psychologists, occupational therapists, and social workers. They will provide patients not only with prostheses, but also with a full cycle of rehabilitation.
In addition to Lviv, micro-clinics for prosthetics have begun operating in Kyiv and Poltava. There, they will conduct scans for the individual manufacture of prostheses, and printing will be carried out at the Lviv centre. This will make it possible to provide patients with modern prostheses more quickly and combine technology with comprehensive support during recovery.
