The documentary film Antarctica by director and travel blogger Anton Ptushkin has become a true phenomenon in Ukrainian film distribution. The film has already been viewed by more than 324,000 people, making it the record holder among Ukrainian documentaries.
The picture brought together entire families, school classes, and viewers of all ages. In border towns, cinema managers noted a rare atmosphere of positive emotions, while in Kharkiv’s “Planeta Kino” special screenings were completely sold out — something not seen since 2019.
The film is dedicated to the 30th anniversary Ukrainian Antarctic expedition, the icebreaker Noosphere, the lives of penguins, and the work of scientists at the Akademik Vernadsky station. It premiered in cinemas on September 4, 2025, and in its opening weekend alone grossed nearly 7.2 million hryvnias, confirming strong public interest in Ukrainian popular science cinema.
