President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that thanks to the Bring Kids Back UA initiative, 1,625 Ukrainian children illegally taken by Russia have already been returned. He made the statement during a speech at the meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, held within the framework of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
According to the head of state, each return is not only a saved life but also a challenge, since children need reintegration and protection from the trauma they experienced.
Ukraine is also launching a tracking mechanism to collect all available data about minors held by Russia. Zelensky reminded that earlier, during negotiations in Turkey, the Ukrainian delegation handed over a list of 339 names to the Russian side, but no response has been received.
“As of now, Russia has done almost nothing. They refuse to provide real information not only to Ukraine but also to international organizations,” the president emphasized.
The International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children brings together governments, international institutions, and human rights organizations. Its mission is to increase pressure on Russia and secure the return of all minors who remain in illegal captivity.
