Why it is important to inform your doctor about your veteran status

Veterans in Ukraine are entitled to a range of free medical services. To receive them in full, it is important to inform your doctor about your veteran status. This allows specialists to take into account specific experiences in the treatment plan, such as injuries, the effects of stress or combat trauma, and mental stress.

Such patients can receive individual treatment plans, extended diagnostics, psychological assistance, rehabilitation, and specialised consultations. In particular, this includes treatment for the effects of traumatic brain injury, arthritis or other diseases of the musculoskeletal system, as well as therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder or depression.

In addition, veterans have access to consultations with specialists — orthopaedists, neurologists, cardiologists and other doctors. Treatment is also free in hospitals that have a contract with the National Health Service of Ukraine. It covers cardiological, neurological, infectious, pulmonological and gastroenterological services. Patients are entitled to laboratory tests, modern diagnostics (CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound), pain relief therapy, necessary medication, intensive care and nutrition during their stay in hospital.

To exercise your right to free treatment, simply inform your doctor of your status and obtain a referral for the necessary services. These are provided free of charge under the Medical Guarantees Programme.
