Documentary Film “2000 Meters to Andriivka” Breaks Box Office Record

Mstyslav Chernov’s documentary 2000 Meters to Andriivka has become the most successful Ukrainian documentary in theatrical release in 2024. During its opening weekend, the film attracted over 10,000 viewers — a record for the genre. Its box office earnings reached nearly 2 million UAH, placing it second among all weekly premieres and among the top five weekend releases, alongside major Hollywood titles.

The film premiered on August 28 and remains available in cinemas. Its success was highlighted by Denis Ivanov, CEO of Arthouse Traffic, who called it a “documentary blockbuster” and emphasized its significance for Ukrainian cinema.

2000 Meters to Andriivka tells the story of the liberation of the village of Andriivka in Donetsk region by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, particularly the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. At the heart of the narrative is the everyday life of Ukrainian soldiers on the front line, captured through helmet cameras worn by four servicemen. Filming began in September 2023 and lasted a year and a half.

The film has already won the top award at Docudays UA 2025, and its box office success reflects growing public interest in authentic wartime stories told through personal experience.
