Free medical treatment for veterans is being expanded in Ukrainian medical institutions

Ukraine is expanding access to free treatment for illnesses and injuries sustained during military service. Medical facilities across the country are joining an initiative launched by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the National Health Service of Ukraine. The programme is designed to help veterans and ex-servicemen receive treatment and rehabilitation, taking into account the specificities of their health conditions.

The programme provides individual treatment plans, extended diagnostics, psychological support and inpatient treatment under the Medical Guarantees Programme. Areas of focus include cardiology, neurology, pulmonology, infectious diseases and gastroenterology. Rehabilitation services, musculoskeletal therapy, laboratory tests, diagnostic examinations, intensive care, and necessary medications are also available.

To receive assistance, you must contact your family doctor or attending physician for a referral to a specialist or hospital. In urgent cases, you can go directly to the hospital or call emergency medical services at 103 or 112. Any requests for additional payment for these services are illegal, and violations should be reported to the National Health Service of Ukraine at 16-77.

The programme is being implemented as part of the “Opportunities for Veterans” information campaign with the support of the US State Department in partnership with the IREX Veterans Reintegration Programme.
