On 24 August, Ukrainians and their supporters took to the streets of dozens of European cities to emphasise that Ukraine’s struggle is a struggle for the security and future of all of Europe. The events took place as part of the global initiative “Unity is…”, organised by the Ukrainian digital community Strichka.

The aim of the events was not only to celebrate Independence Day, but also to support a petition to the European Parliament for Ukraine’s urgent admission to the EU. The organisers prepared posters and infographics illustrating shared values, economic ties and gratitude to European countries for their support. In total, the initiative was supported by more than 30 Ukrainian communities from more than 15 countries around the world.
The campaign began on 19 August and will continue until 27 August 2025. Among the most notable events were celebrations in Plzeň, Czech Republic, a march in Exeter, England, the raising of the flag at the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a concert in Hamburg. The participation of Ukrainian polar explorers at the Akademik Vernadsky station in Antarctica, where they placed posters of the initiative, became a special symbol of unity.
According to the organisers, these actions are intended to unite Ukrainians abroad and remind the world that Ukraine’s European integration is a joint step towards a secure future for the continent.
