Ukraine to launch free annual check-ups for people aged 40 and over

Starting in 2026, Ukraine will launch a new state programme of preventive medical examinations for citizens aged 40 and over. Once a year, every Ukrainian in this age group will be able to undergo a free check-up, which will be covered by the state budget.

This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko during the presentation of the new government’s action plan. According to her, regular examinations will enable the timely detection of diseases and reduce the risk of premature mortality.

The programme will include diagnostics for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus and mental disorders, which are the main causes of disability. Health Minister Viktor Lyashko noted that citizens will be able to choose any institution for check-ups: state, municipal or private.

The state will fully cover the costs of such examinations, which, according to government officials, will relieve the burden on the healthcare system and increase the level of prevention among the population.
