In Ukraine, the network of specialists helping veterans adapt to civilian life and exercise their rights is steadily growing. According to the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, 1,375 specialists are currently working across 1,098 territorial communities nationwide.
A distinctive feature of this system is that nearly 40% of these specialists are veterans themselves, as well as family members of veterans or fallen defenders. With their own experience, they better understand the needs of military personnel and can provide support in a more targeted and effective way.
Dedicated positions for veteran support specialists are being created in municipal institutions, facilities, and non-commercial enterprises run by local councils. This approach ensures that such services are accessible even in smaller communities.
So far, the specialists have already processed more than 63,000 requests and provided over 274,000 support services for veterans and their families. These include assistance with employment, social benefits, psychological rehabilitation, and other crucial areas.
Recently, the government decided to set a minimum salary of 25,000 hryvnias for these specialists. This step aims to raise the prestige of the profession and strengthen the development of Ukraine’s veteran support system.
