Young doctors who will work in villages and frontline areas will receive 200,000 hryvnia from the state.

Ukraine has introduced a programme of one-off payments for young doctors who, after completing their internship, will work in rural areas or frontline territories. The amount of assistance is 200,000 hryvnia. The government initiative will remain in effect until the end of martial law, with the possibility of extension. It applies to 2025 internship graduates from 20 state higher education institutions under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health or the Ministry of Education and Science.

To receive the payment, doctors must find a vacancy on the Unified Web Portal for Medical Workers in a state or municipal healthcare institution located in a village or in an area of active combat operations. Mandatory conditions: no more than 75% of medical positions filled and the willingness of the medical institution to sign a contract for at least three years.

Documents must be submitted by 10 October to the higher education institution where the internship was completed. The following must be provided:

  • a statement addressed to the rector;
  • a confirmation letter from the medical institution confirming compliance with the requirements;
  • copies of educational documents (if necessary);
  • proof of employment (employment record book or extract from the Register of Insured Persons);
  • a copy of the concluded employment contract.

Documents can be submitted in person or sent to the official email address of the educational institution. After verifying the data, the university issues an order for the payment, and the funds are transferred by the end of the fiscal year.

In the event of early dismissal at the doctor’s own initiative, by mutual agreement of the parties, or due to improper performance of duties, the doctor must return the payment within 10 days. Exceptions include force majeure, closure of the medical institution, establishment of disability of group I or II for the doctor or his relatives, as well as conscription into military service.
