Fraudsters offering fake “UN payments” have become active in Ukraine

Ukraine is once again experiencing a wave of fraudulent schemes involving alleged financial assistance from the United Nations. Criminals are sending messages via instant messengers promising payments of 10,800 hryvnia, asking recipients to follow a link and fill out an application on a fake website.

According to the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, the UN does not make payments through third-party or unverified resources. All official programs of the organization are announced exclusively through verified state and international sources.

The danger of such schemes lies in the fact that users are forced to enter personal and banking details, including card numbers and CVV codes, which can lead to the complete loss of funds. Experts advise never to click on suspicious links, never to disclose confidential information, and to contact the bank and law enforcement agencies at the slightest suspicion.

At the same time, there are genuine UN aid programs for Ukrainians. In particular, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) provided payments of 10,800 hryvnia to internally displaced persons and those who returned to their place of residence after February 24, 2022. The conditions for participation included low income, no other payments in the last three months, and meeting vulnerability criteria such as single parenting, old age, or disability.

In addition, Ukrainians can receive state assistance in the amount of 4,500 hryvnia, intended for low-income families, single parents, and children who do not receive child support.
