In the first half of 2025, 5,017 citizens officially changed their names in Ukraine. Most of these cases were recorded in the capital — 784 applications were registered in Kyiv. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
Among the regions with the highest number of name changes are Dnipropetrovsk Oblast (433 cases), Lviv Oblast (403), Odesa Oblast (359), Kyiv Oblast (335) and Kharkiv Oblast (255).

The Ministry of Justice reminded that Ukrainians have the right to change their name independently from the age of 16. For persons aged 14 to 16, such a procedure is possible with the consent of their parents or guardian. An application can be submitted to the civil registry office at the place of residence or to the consulate if the applicant is abroad.
The cost of the service is 5.10 hryvnia for the initial name change and 51 hryvnia for a subsequent change not related to marriage. However, not all applications can be approved: grounds for refusal include a criminal record, ongoing criminal proceedings, being wanted by the police, or providing false information.
The decision to change a name is made within three months, and in some cases, up to six months. If approved, the applicant receives a permit, on the basis of which a certificate of name change is issued.
