Ukrzaliznytsia has signed a contract with Kryukiv Carriage Works for the production of 100 new passenger cars. This is the third large-scale rolling stock renewal since 2021, funded by the state budget. The company reports that the new cars will have innovative technical solutions, a longer service life and an increased level of comfort for passengers.

The first signal batch – five new generation cars – will be equipped with modern control systems, electric heating with individual climate control, pneumatic suspension and sealed passages. The compartment cars will accommodate up to 44 passengers, which is 10% more than the standard capacity. One of them will be adapted for the transportation of people with disabilities with an electric lift, ramp and extended compartment.
Thanks to new technologies, the cars will be able to operate for up to 50 years – 20 years longer than typical models. Their maintenance will require fewer staff, and extended overhaul intervals will reduce operating costs. The cost of one carriage is about UAH 95 million, and the cost of an inclusive carriage is UAH 98.3 million.
The delivery of the cars will take up to 2.5 years from the date of prepayment, including the certification process. If the state provides additional funding, Ukrzaliznytsia is ready to increase orders and increase the share of new cars in the fleet.
“This is not only an investment in travelling comfort, but also in supporting Ukrainian industry,” said Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. According to her, 166 enterprises from across the country are involved in the production of railcars, including those that have moved from the occupied territories or operate near the frontline.
