Iryna Shyrochenko and Valentyna Prysyazhnyuk, volunteers of the Rapid Response Unit of the National Committee of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, received the Florence Nightingale Medals, the highest international award given to medics and volunteers for exceptional courage and humanity in emergency situations.

The award ceremony took place the day before. Iryna and Valentyna were awarded in recognition of their contribution to saving lives and helping civilians during evacuations and relief efforts in the aftermath of shelling as part of the full-scale war in Ukraine.

The Florence Nightingale Medal is awarded annually for bravery, self-sacrifice and commitment to the principles of humanity. Presenting this award to Ukrainian volunteers is also a testament to the resilience and professionalism of the entire Ukrainian Red Cross community.
