Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to Ukraine Martin Johan Anders Oberg paid a working visit to Sumy region. The main purpose of the visit was to study the urgent needs of the region in order to further attract international assistance. Particular attention was paid to supporting humanitarian initiatives implemented in cooperation with the Swedish Red Cross, a key partner of Sumy region.

During meetings with local authorities and humanitarian organisations, the parties discussed areas of international cooperation, including strengthening ties between Konotop and Linköping. One of the priorities is to provide internally displaced persons with temporary housing. In this context, the importance of building a modular town in Sumy, which is being constructed with the support of the Swedish Red Cross and the Swedish International Development Agency SIDA, was stressed.
During the visit, the delegation inspected the construction sites, got acquainted with the progress of the Care at Home programme and joined an event as part of the mental health and psychosocial support project. All initiatives are aimed at improving the quality of life of vulnerable populations and developing sustainable models of humanitarian response.
