IOM renovates children’s hospital in Kharkiv

The Kharkiv Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital has received a renovated trauma unit thanks to the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and funding from the Government of Norway. As part of the project, 20 wards designed for children and their accompanying adults were completely renovated. The improvements covered the surgical, rehabilitation and partially infectious disease wards, as well as the hospital’s common areas.

The renovation was an important event for the medical facility, which has received more than 200 children with mine-blast injuries from the shelling of Kharkiv and the region since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Oleksiy Savvo, medical director of inpatient care, said that the treatment conditions for patients have now become much more comfortable.

At the opening of the renovated unit, IOM Ukraine’s Acting Chief of Mission, David Womble, stressed the importance of supporting vulnerable populations: “I am deeply impressed by the resilience of the medical staff and glad that we were able to contribute to the renovation of the hospital.”

The project was implemented with the financial support of the Kingdom of Norway, in cooperation with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kyiv.
