Children’s Day to be celebrated in Ukraine in November

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed Decree No. 355/2025, according to which the date of the Children’s Day celebration has been changed. From now on, this day will be celebrated annually in Ukraine on 20 November instead of 1 June. The decree came into force on 30 May 2025.

The new date is timed to coincide with the World Children’s Day, which is celebrated annually under the auspices of the United Nations on 20 November. It was on this day that the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. Thus, Ukraine joins the international practice of honouring children’s rights on a day that has a global symbolic meaning.

Children’s Day has traditionally served as an opportunity to draw attention to the protection of children’s rights, safety, well-being, and development. After changing the date of the celebration in Ukraine, it retains its significance, but its celebration will be aligned with the international calendar of events in the field of children’s rights.
