Wheelchairs are especially common among young people and children: 26% of young people with disabilities and 25% of children regularly use this device. In contrast, hearing aids and crutches are more commonly needed by people aged 60 and over – 16% and 14% respectively.
The level of use of such devices also depends on the size of the settlement. Residents of large cities are more likely to have access to the necessary rehabilitation equipment: 55% of residents of cities with a population of more than 50,000 people use devices, while in smaller settlements, only 42% do.
At the same time, a third of the people with disabilities surveyed (35%) said they required additional devices to live a full life. The highest demand is for wheelchairs (8%), hearing aids (7%) and specialised software (5%).
