This year’s initiative is a continuation of the programme launched in 2024 with the participation of the Norwegian Association of Nonfiction Authors and Translators and PEN Ukraine. Last year, 10 projects were supported. In 2025, the organisers have expanded the programme’s focus to include not only non-fiction authors but also those working in the field of fiction, children’s and teenage literature.
Twenty authors will receive scholarships of €5000 (in the Ukrainian hryvnia equivalent). The ultimate goal for each participant is to publish a book in a Ukrainian publishing house by 30 November 2026.
The programme is organised by the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, the Norwegian Association of Authors and Translators of Nonfiction, the Norwegian Writers’ Union and PEN Ukraine. The initiative is implemented with the support of The Nansen Support Programme for Ukraine.
The application deadline is the end of July. Applicants need to provide a biography, project description, timeline, expert recommendation, and confirmation of publication plans. Applications will be evaluated in August-September. The jury consists of well-known Ukrainian and Norwegian writers, editors, literary critics, and representatives of the cultural community.
During the selection process, the experts will take into account the author’s style, the significance of the topic, and the applicant’s ability to conduct in-depth research. The names of the scholarship winners will be announced on 30 September 2025.
