PEN Ukraine has announced a call for applications for scholarships for Ukrainian writers and journalists to write fiction and non-fiction books that record and reflect on the experience of war. This was reported on the organisation’s website.
The project aims to support Ukrainian authors of non-fiction (reportage, biographies, essays, interviews, etc.), fiction (novels, short stories, poetry, drama, etc.), children’s and teenage literature (fiction and non-fiction texts).
In 2025, 20 scholarships will be awarded in the amount of 5 thousand euros each (in the hryvnia equivalent). The programme will result in a non-fiction book published by a Ukrainian publishing house no later than 30 November 2026.
The application form can be filled in by 31 July 2025. The components of the application include a biography, a schedule of work on the book and its preparation for publication, a synopsis of the future work, a recommendation from a reputable expert, and a copy of the agreement with the publisher or a letter of intent to publish the book.
All the details of the programme are available here.
