Activists and staff of the National Museum of the Holodomor Genocide tried to remove the memorial sign to the Holodomor victims from Pokrovsk, but failed due to constant shelling. The dismantling was postponed for security reasons, as the monument is located in a cemetery in the area of active hostilities.
In an interview with Hromadske Radio, the museum’s director general, Lesia Gasydzhak, said that such cases of destruction or threats to memorial sites are common in the temporarily occupied territories and in regions where hostilities are ongoing.
Meanwhile, in the Chernihiv region, local authorities damaged the mass grave of Holodomor victims in the village of Ivkivtsi during landscaping. According to Gasydzhak, the graves could have remained intact because the human remains did not come to the surface. The head of the community promised to improve the territory and honour the memory of the victims.
