The 47th meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee to be held in Paris in July 2025 will discuss the conservation of three World Heritage sites located in Kyiv, Lviv and Odesa. The issues were raised during a meeting between Serhiy Belyaev, Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, and Lazare Elundo Assomo, Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre.
The meeting took place as part of Belyaev’s visit to Paris. The parties discussed in detail the need to preserve World Heritage sites in Ukraine, as well as measures that could help protect them in times of war. Particular attention was paid to the creation of an effective management body for the protection of Odesa’s historical heritage, which is one of the key tasks to ensure the protection of the city inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2023.

The parties also discussed the possibility of organising internships for students of restoration specialities. It is planned that with the support of UNESCO, future Ukrainian restorers will have the opportunity to study at international institutions, which will help in the restoration of cultural monuments after the war.
In addition, UNESCO and the European Union have recently officially launched a joint project aimed at preserving Jewish documentary heritage in Ukraine. This initiative is part of a broader programme to support Ukraine’s culture and historical heritage in the face of modern challenges.
