According to Rubio, the remaining 18% of programmes (about 1,000) that were saved will now be more effectively administered by the State Department in cooperation with Congress.
He also thanked the Department of General Oversight (DOGE) and the staff who worked on this reform. USAID has traditionally been engaged in humanitarian aid, economic development and democracy support around the world, and this cut could significantly change its activities.
