Ukraine ranks 20th among the 27 countries of the European Union and Ukraine’s overall Gender Equality Index (GI) score. Based on a comprehensive analysis of six key areas, such as work, money, knowledge, time, influence and health, the country has shown significant progress in the areas of Health, Money and Time. In particular, the strong results in the Time domain can be explained by the active participation of women and men in charitable and volunteer activities, where Ukraine even exceeds the EU average.

However, there are also areas where there is an imbalance. In particular, Ukraine has low scores in the Influence domain, which is due to the underrepresentation of women in leadership positions.
The calculation of the GDI for Ukraine took 1.5 years. The next steps will be to strengthen the capacity of government agencies to assess gender equality according to European standards and to introduce a system of continuous monitoring of the index. This will allow for a more effective assessment of progress in equality and the development of new democratic policies based on data.
