The Government of Ukraine has adopted a resolution that simplifies the process of awarding social scholarships to students from vulnerable categories of citizens. According to the initiative of the Ministry of Social Policy, children from privileged categories will now be able to receive social scholarships even after they turn 18 and up to and including the age of 23.
Key changes:
Children from privileged categories, such as internally displaced persons (IDPs), combatants, persons with war-related disabilities and those deprived of their personal liberty, will be eligible for scholarships after turning 18, regardless of when their privileged status was established.
Previously, students could only receive a scholarship if their status was determined before they turned 18.

New rules have also been introduced to facilitate the process of confirming the status of children of combatants and persons with war-related disabilities. Now, children of such persons can use a court decision declaring their parents missing or an extract from the Unified Register of Missing Persons to apply for a scholarship if the relevant documents have not yet been issued.
The Ministry of Social Policy emphasises that it will continue to improve social support programmes in times of war to effectively help Ukrainians in need.
