According to the diplomat, there are currently about 85,000 Ukrainian refugees in Austria, and about 30% of them already have jobs. He stressed that Ukrainians integrate much faster than migrants from other countries. This is due to their high motivation to study and find employment.
Ukrainian children are also actively involved in the educational process. They study in Austrian schools on weekdays, and on Saturdays, many attend Ukrainian educational institutions where they learn their native language and history. Benkö noted that a good knowledge of their native language helps children learn German faster.
The temporary protection status for Ukrainians in Austria has been extended until March 2026. This means that all Ukrainians who come to the country can receive protection and access to social services.
