Veterans with disabilities can learn to drive for free

The Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs reimburses the cost of learning to drive a specialised vehicle. The service is available to veterans with disabilities, their family members and the families of those who died. The programme includes 64 hours of theory and 40 hours of practical training in specially equipped manual cars, with the option of sign language instruction. In some regions, it will be possible to take training for the C1 category (trucks).

To use the service, you need to provide a medical certificate of fitness to drive and submit an application to your local veterans’ policy unit.

‘Driving schools for people with disabilities run by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine are already operating in Dnipro, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Odesa and Khmelnytskyi regions.

Theoretical and practical exams are held at the MIA service centre. Driving licences are also issued there.

The flagship project Driving Schools for People with Disabilities was initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska.
