In January 2025, 1531 new cases of tuberculosis were registered in Ukraine. Of these, 1,130 people fell ill for the first time, 314 relapsed, and another 87 were patients who had resumed treatment or had no known history of previous treatment.
According to the Public Health Centre, 271 people had drug-resistant TB. The majority of patients (1,429) had the pulmonary form of the disease, and 102 had extrapulmonary disease.
Tuberculosis is more commonly diagnosed in men — 1134 cases compared to 397 among women. In addition, 271 patients were confirmed to be HIV-positive, which complicates the course of the disease and requires additional therapy.
Despite the significant number of new cases, doctors emphasise the effectiveness of treatment: in January, 996 Ukrainians overcame tuberculosis. Doctors urge not to ignore the symptoms, seek medical help in a timely manner and undergo preventive examinations.
