During the first year of the project’s operation, specialists issued 141 aids, including wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, handrails and other devices. The availability of such aids contributes to greater independence for people with movement disorders and helps them adapt to everyday life.
The Ukrainian Red Cross mobile rehabilitation teams operate in 13 oblasts, including Lviv, Volyn, Rivne, Khmelnytsky, Ivano-Frankivsk, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Dnipro, Ternopil, Chernihiv, Odesa, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia. Specialists not only assess the need for assistive devices, but also advise on the accessibility of housing and provide handrails or portable ramps if necessary.
The Community Rehabilitation project is aimed at supporting people who need rehabilitation assistance in their communities. You can get advice or help by calling the Ukrainian Red Cross hotline: 0 800 332 656.
