The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the Concept of the State Target Economic Programme for Livestock Development until 2033. One of the key aspects of the programme is to provide Ukrainians with quality livestock products. It is expected that the average per capita consumption of meat will increase to 70 kg per year, dairy products to 270 kg, and eggs to 389.
The programme also provides incentives for the development of farms. The share of livestock production from small and medium-sized farmers is to increase to 10% of all enterprises in the industry. In addition, it is planned to modernise the processing infrastructure – the volume of raw milk supplied for industrial processing will increase to 6 million tonnes per year.
Special attention is paid to improving the genetics of the livestock. The introduction of modern breeding methods will help to increase the productivity and competitiveness of Ukrainian livestock in the international market. To expand its export potential, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy is working to help Ukrainian producers enter new markets.

Sustainable development of the industry is also a priority of the programme. The use of modern technologies will help minimise the environmental impact of production and improve animal welfare standards.
The programme will be financed from the state budget, international technical assistance, grants and other sources. In the near future, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy will present a detailed programme implementation plan that will serve as a basis for directing state support to the livestock sector.
