The Ukrainian authorities have managed to repatriate five children from the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk, Donetsk, and Kherson regions. The return took place within the framework of the Bring Kids Back UA plan initiated by the President of Ukraine, said Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights. The returnees include children aged 1.5 years to 18 years, who will now have access to medical care, education and social support.

One of the teenagers, who could not leave the occupied region on his own, turned to the Ombudsman’s Office. Thanks to joint work with charitable organisations, he was helped with documents, housing, and university admission. The Office also took control of the case of a servicewoman released from captivity who asked to return her daughter from the occupied territory. The girl is now with her mother.
Dmytro Lubinets emphasised that such cases underline the importance of international support, in particular the assistance of the State of Qatar. He also urged citizens who need help in similar situations to contact the Office’s hotline: 0 800 50 17 20 (in Ukraine) or 044 299 74 08 (from abroad), as well as the email address hotline@ombudsman.gov.ua.
