The number of Ukrainian high school graduates achieving the maximum score on the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) is steadily declining. The trend was highlighted by Kyiv School of Economics President Tymofiy Mylovanov, who shared recent statistics on his Facebook page.
In 2022, a total of 6,556 students scored 200 points on the NMT. That number fell to 3,685 in 2023, 3,417 in 2024, and only 2,414 in 2025. Mylovanov suggested that possible reasons include demographic changes, a more challenging testing methodology, the ongoing impact of the war, or other factors.
Interestingly, before the NMT was introduced — when Ukraine still used the External Independent Evaluation (ZNO) system — the number of top scorers was even lower. In 2021, around 574 applicants achieved the maximum score, while in 2020 there were just 447.
According to Mylovanov, these figures indicate a deep crisis in Ukraine’s school education system, which could have long-term implications for the country’s future development.
