An initiative for foster families, “From a house to a home”, has been launched.

The Olena Zelenska Foundation, in partnership with UNICEF, has launched the “From House to Home” initiative for large foster families. The goal is to transform newly built or purchased homes into safe, comfortable environments where children without parental care can feel supported and stable despite the war.

For several years now, the state has been financing the purchase of housing for family-type children’s homes. Last year, 57 families received new homes, and this year, the subsidy was directed towards providing housing for more than 120 foster families. Among them are newly formed families and those who were forced to leave their homes due to the war.

The “From House to Home” initiative provides not only material support for the homes — furniture, appliances, household items — but also social support, psychological support, and help for children to adapt to their new environment. Families will determine their needs individually, together with teams from partner organisations.

“We want every child to not only have a roof over their head, but also to feel the warmth of a family, security and opportunities for development,” emphasised Nina Gorbacheva, director of the Olena Zelenska Foundation.

As part of the initiative, families will receive furniture, basic housing equipment, and long-term social and psychological support. This will create adequate conditions for 5-10 children in each family, often for siblings who have not been separated.
