EU Children’s Space brings together thousands of Ukrainians in Kyiv

The Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine in partnership with UNICEF organised the event “Children’s Space for Adults and Children” on the lawn near the National Museum of History of Ukraine. The event, dedicated to supporting the rights of young Ukrainians and the start of summer holidays, gathered around 2,800 visitors.

The event was welcomed by Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova, Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Oksana Zholnovych and UNICEF Representative in Ukraine Munir Mammadzadeh.

One of the key events was a discussion between children and Ms Mathernova and Ms Zholnovych on the protection of children’s rights and the role of the European Union. Afterwards, everyone joined a cooking show with renowned chef Yevhen Klopotenko, during which Ms Mathernova and Mr Mammadzadeh prepared original dishes.

During the day, the children had the opportunity to sign a Letter to Young Ukrainians who will live in Ukraine after it joins the European Union. This letter, along with the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, was placed in a special box that will be kept at the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

The event featured numerous thematic tents and interactive sessions. Among them: “Euroquiz” and “EuroClub from Zhytomyr” with quizzes and puppet theatre on European topics, a masterclass on “Caring for Mental Health” by Olena Naumenko, self-defence training in the digital environment “I want to see it!” by the Ukrainian Foundation for the Wellbeing of Children and Juvenile Prevention of the National Police of Ukraine, and a masterclass on mine safety by the State Emergency Service. In addition, the children listened to “Brave Tales” performed by Antonina Khyzhnyak and Victoria Murovana, and learned how to create a video for TikTok with Vlad Rudnytsky from the Collider project.

The day’s participants completed Euroquests, took part in competitions, enjoyed performances by the Ravlyk puppet theatre, painted a huge colouring book together, took pictures with capybaras, and ate ice cream. The day culminated with performances by Svitlana Tarabarova and Artem Kotenko, who received loud support from all those present.
