On 5-6 July, Kyiv will host the 48-hour AI Data Jam hackathon, an event that will bring together artificial intelligence, machine learning and computer vision experts to create solutions that can help clear Ukraine of mines. The event is organised by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the Humanitarian Demining Centre, UADamage and UNDP Ukraine as part of the Field Data Harvest project.

The goal of the initiative is to develop effective AI models that can automatically detect explosive objects in drone imagery. Participants will work with annotated optical data, compare model architectures in near-real-world conditions, and propose approaches to data standardisation, accuracy assessment, and solution scaling.

AI Data Jam is aimed not only at technological development, but also at creating sustainable approaches to the use of AI in humanitarian demining. The organisers emphasise that the best ideas will be implemented in partnership with specialised organisations.
Specialists with experience in computer vision, UAV data processing, machine learning, or related fields are invited to participate. Participation is free and registration is open until 1 July 2025. The hackathon will be held in a hybrid format – offline in Kyiv and online.
