Every year on 5 May, the world celebrates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day designed to remind us of the importance of equal rights and opportunities for everyone. In Ukraine, this topic is gradually turning into a systemic policy. As part of the National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Space until 2030, flagship projects are being implemented to create a comfortable space for people with disabilities and other low-mobility groups.

One of these projects was the ‘Movement without Barriers’ initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska and implemented by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development. The focus is on creating barrier-free routes in Ukrainian cities and communities. The pilot implementation is taking place in Poltava and Opishnya territorial communities.
In Poltava, the first stage of the route called ‘Veteran’s Way’ will be launched in 2025. Its length is 1.44 km, and the total length of the route will reach 28 km. The main objects of the route: The Communications House, the City Council, Monastyrska Street and the Poltava Military Hospital.
A 4.5 km route is planned for Opishne. The first stage, which is 2.9 km long, will be constructed in the summer of 2025.
